Welcome to the TarantulaCafe
Tarantulas (as the term is commonly used) comprise a group of often hairy and often very large arachnids belonging to the family Theraphosidae, of which approximately 900 species have been identified.
All tarantulas have venom and handling them is not advised or endorsed. Some people are not affected by this; some people may be allergic to the venom, or just more sensitive, making it a dangerous situation. In certain cases of envenomation, hospitalization has been required.
Some species can flick urticating hairs off of their abdomens, which cause a reaction, depending on the person. This is a tarantula’s natural defence.
All tarantulas should be considered dangerous, so be careful.
